GEAR EDITOR
Mark Johnston
If it's made from Gore-Tex, Vibram, Pertex or Stealth C4 rubber, chances are it's been put through its paces by SA Mountain Sport gear editor Mark Johnston.
"I'm fascinated by outdoor gear," says Mark. "I want to know what is the lightest, strongest most reliable equipment out there." And he's pretty dedicated in his quest. A few years back he spent two days in a walk-in freezer testing sleeping bags, braved atrocious conditions on Scotland's Cullin Ridge trying out a new soft-shell and even subjected himself to a morning under a high pressure shower to find the most waterproof raincoat.
When he's not trying to destroy gear you'll find him on the mountain enjoying his two other favourite pastimes, climbing and photography. |
